For five months in 2003, filmmaker Leanne Allison and wildlife
biologist Karsten Heuer migrated on foot with the 120,000-member
Porcupine Caribou Herd from Old Crow, Yukon, Canada, to the caribou
calving grounds in Alaska and back, in order to raise awareness about
saving this sacred area from oil drilling. Spectacular footage and
intimate video diaries document their 1500 km journey across three
mountain ranges and icy rivers, including hiding in their tent for the
10-day calving season and continuing with mothers, bulls and newborns
back to the Yukon. Winner of a dozen awards at film festivals across
North America, this National Film Board of Canada production is a must
see. 72 mins.
