Written and directed by Julie Bertuccelli, Since Otar Left is based on a true story and takes place in Tbilisi, the crumbling capital of the post-Soviet republic of Georgia. This setting adds an historical and political dimension to an already charming domestic drama involving three generations of women in the same family, all greatly missing Otar who has gone to France for work. The relationships between the leading women as well as the two European cultures are explored in intimate detail. Winner of the Grand Prize in the International Critics Week at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
In French/Georgian/Russian with subtitles. 102 minutes.
