On February 24 the Bowen Island Film Society presents a very special evening featuring short films created by Palestinian, Israeli and Canadian teenagers under a programme called “Peace it Together 2006”. Conceived and organized by the Creative Peace Network (www.creativepeacenetwork.ca), the programme drew thirty youth together for 18 days at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School on Galiano Island. There they bonded around their shared desires to make movies and promote understanding and peaceful conflict resolution. We will screen seven of their films as well as a behind-the-scenes documentary about the camp. Presenting the films on behalf of Creative Peace Network: Reena Lazar and Adri Hamael Executive Directors; Melanie Hamael, Tamara Pearl, Directors; 3-4 young filmmakers.
Part of the proceeds from this event -- and any additional audience donations -- will go to the Creative Peace Network to fund future peace camp initiatives. The Creative Peace Network is fundraising to bring Israeli, Palestinian, and Canadian soccer players together to Bowen Island this summer to focus on cultural understanding and leadership and to play at the Wish Cup soccer tournament (Peace Cup Division) in Vancouver. In addition, two to four youth from last summer’s camp will return to make a low budget documentary of the Peace camp and Peace Cup.
